Apigenin belongs to the flavonoids. It has the ability to inhibit the carcinogenic activity of carcinogens; it is used as an antiviral drug for the treatment of HIV and other viral infections; it is an inhibitor of MAP kinase; it can treat various inflammations; it is an antioxidant; it can calm and soothe the nerves; and it can lower blood pressure. Compared with other flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), it has the characteristics of low toxicity and non-mutagenicity.
