Caffeic acid phenethyl ester, referred to as CPAE, is one of the main active ingredients of propolis. It is effective against herpes virus, while other viruses are inhibited by propolis ingredients as well as adenovirus and influenza virus. Propolis CAPE, quercetin, isoprene, esters, isorhamnetin, Kora, glycosides, polysaccharides and other substances have anti-cancer activity, can inhibit tumor cell proliferation, have certain toxic effects on cancer cells, and have specific killing properties against CAPE tumor cells. Caffeic acid benzoate has long been considered as an antioxidant with potential anti-cancer activity.
